MAY can’t come soon enough for fans of Dunfermline legends The Skids after the band announced their first ever convention.

For one weekend only, they will be able to meet their heroes in an intimate hometown setting to celebrate the band’s 40th anniversary.

The convention starts on Saturday, May 19, coinciding with the opening of a special exhibition at Dunfermline Carnegie Library & Galleries which will showcase the history of the now five-piece.

Two live shows will be performed at PJ Molloys on both the Saturday and Sunday, with lead singer Richard Jobson reading extracts from his new novel, Into the Valley, and taking questions at the galleries.

The first showing of The Skids documentary, which followed the band on their 40th anniversary tour around the UK, will also be screened throughout the weekend.

The Old Town Barber Club in Maygate will also be converted into a gin bar, with drinks being served on the Sunday.

Jobson told the Press in January of the convention: “This is going to be such a great event for our fans and ourselves. We’re really looking forward to the shows, exhibition, documentary and the gin bar as well.

“The whole street from PJ’s down to the barbers, with the library in between, will be brilliant. It’s a very exciting time. If you had told me years ago that this convention would be happening after a 40th anniversary tour and a new album, I wouldn’t have believed you.

“Burning Cities has been received so well, and I feel that fans have connected with the songs very quickly. It’s intense and fun for us to play.”

Both Calum Miller and Calum Traynor, of PJ Molloys and Weekend Revolution, are involved in organising the convention.

The former said: “It’s such an exciting time for Skids fans. Their 40th anniversary comeback has been hugely successful and they’ve received nationwide acclaim for not only the tour, but their new album, too.

“The Saturday night gig in PJ’s will be the one and only time they play Burning Cities in it’s entirety from start to finish.

“This is for all the fans that are loving seeing the band play live after all these years in a completely different way. They’ll be able to get up-close and personal with the band, speak to them and see them in this new light.

“The whole band will be accessible over the weekend, socialising in Dunfermline’s bars and restaurants and just having fun with their fans; that’s the crux of this weekend.

“This is an opportunity to hang out with the band for one great weekend.

"Both Calum and myself are honoured to be a part of this Skids family. Growing up in Dunfermline, we’ve followed their music for years and to have them rehearse in PJ’s now, it’s incredible for us.

A full schedule of the May 19/20 weekend is available, along with tickets, online at Ticketweb.

Tickets cost £50 and exclusive merchandise will be sold on both days.
